Subject found with drugs during traffic stop / Laurel County

Laurel County, KY -  Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Joey Robinson along with Deputy Gary Mehler stopped a vehicle that was traveling more than 20 miles over the speed limit early Friday morning December 28, 2018 at approximately 6:49 AM.

The driver Matthew Storms age 34 of Corbin was arrested.

The arrest occurred on I–75 approx. 2 miles north of London after deputies clocked a tan colored Chevrolet Cavalier traveling 90 mph in a 70 mph zone.

During the traffic stop it was learned that this individual was driving on a DUI suspended license and had an outstanding warrant. In addition, this subject was found in possession of Oxycodone and Gabapentin in a clear plastic bag.

Matthew Storms was charged with speeding more than 20 miles over the speed limit; possession of a controlled substance – second-degree; prescription controlled substances not in proper container – first offense; driving on DUI suspended license – first offense; no registration plates; failure to produce insurance card.

In addition, this subject was charged on a Knox District Court bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear in court on charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence; endangering the welfare of a minor; and other violations.

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
