Update: (Arrest Made & Victim Identified) - KSP Investigates Fatal Shooting in Madison County

RICHMOND, Ky. (November 5, 2018) –The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post is continuing the shooting investigation that resulted in the death of one person in Madison County last night.

The ongoing investigation indicates that Matthew S. Francis, 26 years old of Somerset, and Brandon C. Short, 22 years old of Waco, were involved in an altercation in the parking lot of the Marathon gas station It is alleged that Brandon Short retrieved a firearm during the altercation, and fatally shot Matthew Francis.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, Brandon C. Short was arrested early this morning and is lodged in the Madison County Detention Center charged with Murder.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Post 7 Detective Charles Brandenburg.

RICHMOND, Ky. (November 5, 2018) –The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post was called just before 10:15 pm on Sunday night in reference to a shooting that occurred outside of a gas station in Madison County.

The initial investigation indicates that there was an altercation in the parking lot of the Cannon Corner Marathon on Berea Road that resulted in shots being fired. One man, whose identity is not available at this time, was fatally shot during the incident, and pronounced deceased at the scene by the Madison County Coroner. As a result of the initial investigation the alleged shooter was located and detained as detectives continue their investigation.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Post 7 Detective Charles Brandenburg. He was assisted at the scene by KSP Personnel, Richmond PD, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, and the Madison County Coroner.
