Pursuit and Arrest / Laurel County

Laurel County, KY -  Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Major Chuck Johnson arrested Freddie W. Scalf, Jr.  age 26 of Highway 490, East Bernstadt on Friday afternoon October 5, 2018 at approximately 2:10 PM.

The arrest occurred off Ky. 1376 West., approximately 6 miles north of London after Major Johnson observed a red colored Chevrolet pickup truck pull out from Jackson Road onto Arthur Ridge Road and accelerate to speeds in excess of 75 mph on country roads there. The vehicle continued to speed along the country roadways in excess of 75 mph even after Major Johnson activated his emergency equipment attempting to get the vehicle to stop.

The vehicle turned onto numerous country roads in that area including Four Oaks Road, Radford Road, Hensley Road, Chapel Road, and Litton Town Road and continued at a high rate of speed before turning onto an access road along the railroad tracks there.

The vehicle continued at a high rate of speed along that access road traveling through a ditch and into a field where the vehicle became stuck and disabled. The driver of the vehicle refused officers commands to exit the vehicle and had to be removed from the vehicle.

Deputies found a glass pipe with a white residue inside the pipe. Following an investigation conducted by deputies, the driver was determined to be under the influence. In addition, it was learned through investigation that the driver was wanted on a parole violation warrant.

Freddie Scalf Jr. was charged with reckless driving; operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense; fleeing or evading police – first-degree – motor vehicle; no registration plates; failure of owner to maintain required insurance – first offense; resisting arrest; possession of drug paraphernalia;. In addition, this subject was charged on a Kentucky parole board mandatory reentry supervision violation warrant charging absconding parole supervision; failure to report to parole officer as directed regarding a conviction in Laurel Circuit Court on charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence – fourth or subsequent offense; fleeing or evading police – first-degree – motor vehicle; possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine.

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
