KSP Arrests Owsley County Man Following Investigation

BOONEVILLE, Ky. (September 25, 2018) – The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post arrested an Owsley County man on multiple drug and weapon charges after responding to a shots fired call off of Chestnut Gap Road in Owsley County just before 6:00 on September 23, 2018.

A KSP Post 7 Trooper responded to the scene and learned that a man was driving a white van had allegedly fired shots near a residence and left the scene before his arrival. Trooper Derrek Lovett located a white van matching the description at a residence off of KY-28 outside the city limits of Booneville.

During the initial investigation it was determined that James Smith was in possession of two hand guns, approximately 19 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine, Suboxone tablets, marijuana and other drug paraphernalia. As a result of the initial investigation a search of a residence was conducted, which yielded approximately 1.5 pounds of suspected crystal methamphetamine, heroin, Hydrocodone, Gabapentin, Clonazepam, marijuana, and firearms.

James Smith of Booneville was arrested and lodged in the Three Forks Regional Jail charged with Trafficking a Controlled Substance 1st Degree and other drug and weapon related charges.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Post 7 Trooper Derrek Lovett. He was assisted at the scene by KSP Personnel and the Owsley County Sheriff’s office.
