KSP UPDATE - Deceased Identified In Officer Involved Shooting Investigation / Whitley County



London, Ky. (September 24, 2018) – On Monday, September 24, 2018 at approximately 1:26 AM, Kentucky State Police Post 11, London received a call from the Whitley County 911 about a male subject threatening harm to his one year old child inside a vehicle in the driveway of his residence located on KY HWY 1804 in Whitley County.

Upon arrival, it was discovered the male subject had gotten out of his vehicle and took the child inside his residence and attempted to barricade himself inside. The responding Trooper gained entry into the residence and located the male subject and child. A physical altercation ensued between the male subject and Trooper. During the altercation the male subject attempted to assault the Trooper with a weapon. The Trooper fired his service weapon striking the subject.

The male subject was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Neither child or Trooper was injured during the incident.

The Trooper has been placed on administrative leave which is standard protocol in all officer involved shootings.

**UPDATE**

The deceased has been identified as Ronald W. Leach, 29, of Jellico, TN.

KSP Critical Incident Response Team is continuing the investigation.
