KSP Investigates an Officer Involved Shooting in Madison County



RICHMOND, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police is investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred at approximately 4:50 pm Monday outside a hotel on Colby Taylor Drive in Richmond.

The initial investigation indicates that the KSP Special Response Team was at the Townplace Suites attempting to arrest a suspect that had multiple warrants, including Escape 2nd Degree, Bail Jumping 1st Degree and Absconding Parole Supervision. The suspect was also believed to be considered armed and dangerous.

The ongoing investigation indicates that the suspect pulled into the parking lot behind the hotel, at which time he was approached by members of the Special Response Team. During the encounter shots were fired injuring the suspect.

The suspect then drove out of the parking lot and turned right on Colby Taylor Drive, before driving off of the roadway and into some bushes. He was found inside his vehicle by KSP and pronounced deceased at the scene by the Madison County Coroner.

No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident, and the identity of the suspect is not available at this time.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Post 7 and the Critical Incident Response Team.
