Complaint Leads to Pursuit & Arrest of a Convicted Felon / Laurel County


Laurel County, KY -  Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Jake Miller arrested Paul Thurmond age 42 of Parker Rd., London on Wednesday afternoon August 22 2018 at approximately 4:53 PM. The arrest occurred off Parker Road, 4 miles west of London after Deputy Miller was dispatched to investigate a complaint of a gray colored vehicle driving recklessly near St. Joseph Hospital London.

Deputy Miller proceeded to the area of the complaint and observed the suspect vehicle, a Pontiac G6, driving at a high rate of speed and noted that the vehicle had a full busted windshield.

When Deputy Miller activated his emergency equipment to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle sped away failing to stop. Deputy Miller was joined in the search for the vehicle by numerous Laurel County Sheriff's deputies, Kentucky State Police, and London City Police.

Information was developed on the location of the vehicle, which was found hidden behind a residence off Parker Road and the driver of the vehicle was located inside the residence along with numerous rifles and handguns.

It was determined through investigation that the suspect was a convicted felon.

Paul Thurmond was charged with fleeing or evading police – second-degree – motor vehicle; careless driving; obstructed windshield; six counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; two counts of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon; failure of owner to maintain required insurance – first offense.

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
