Theft Arrest In Laurel Co. After Investigation By Sheriff's Detective

Laurel County, KY -  Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Sgt. John Inman along with Deputy Josh Morgan arrested Raymond J. Jackson age 32 of Rebecca Lynn Drive, Barbourville on Wednesday night July 18, 2018 at approximately 10:05 PM.

The arrest occurred of West Cumberland Gap Pkwy., approximately 10 miles south of London after this subject was charged on a Laurel District Court warrant of arrest obtained by Detective Gary Mehler charging fleeing or evading police – second-degree – on foot ; theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting under $500; theft by unlawful taking contents from vehicle under $500.

These charges were the result of an investigation conducted by Detective Mehler after he investigated the theft of items from a pickup truck in the parking lot of Walmart in southern Laurel County on June 10, 2018 at 3:30 in the morning.

While conducting that investigation the suspect came out of Walmart wearing shoes that he had allegedly shoplifted from inside Walmart and upon contact with Detective Mehler, this subject fled on foot kicking off the stolen shoes and following a foot chase was not located.

Detective Mehler determined this subject's identity through investigation and obtained warrants for his arrest.

In addition, this subject was charged on a Knox District Court warrant of arrest charging theft by unlawful taking $500 or more but under $10,000; criminal mischief – first-degree; criminal mischief – third-degree.

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
