Receiving Stolen Property arrest in Laurel County

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Detective Gary Mehler along with Sheriff John Root, Maj. Chuck Johnson, Captain Kevin Berry, and Lieut. Greg Poynter arrested Thomas D. Mitchell age 48 of Dow Adkins Lane, Corbin on Friday afternoon June 29, 2018 at approximately 12:27 PM.

The arrest occurred off Dow Adkins Lane, approximately 9 miles out of London after Laurel County Sheriff John Root, detectives and deputies developed information on the whereabouts of a reported stolen 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle that had been reported stolen in Knox County and investigated by the Knox County Sheriff's Office.

While at a residence on Dow Adkins Lane, the reported stolen motorcycle was found in a shed having been painted totally black. In addition, the vehicle identification numbers had been painted over or removed from the motorcycle.

The home owner located there stated he was painting the motorcycle for another individual that had brought the motorcycle to him. It was noted that this subject had black paint on his hands and a can of black spray paint nearby.

Thomas D. Mitchell was charged with receiving stolen property under $10,000 and destruction of the VIN number and was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

KSP Detective Nick Metcalf assisted the sheriff's office on the VIN identification of the motorcycle.

The investigation is continuing by the Laurel County Sheriff's Office.
