Two arrested after child found wandering along a Laurel County road

Laurel County, KY -  Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Detective Chris Edwards along with Lieut. Greg Poynter, Sgt. Brett Reeves, and Deputy Bryon Lawson arrested two individuals on Wednesday morning June 13, 2018 at approximately 10:30 AM. The arrests occurred in London following an investigation conducted by the Laurel County Sheriff's office after a passerby located a 2 1/2-year-old child with only a diaper on wandering along Piney hill road, 10 miles south of London on Wednesday morning at approximately 7:07 AM.

When deputies arrived at the scene, no parents or caregivers could be located for the child. The child was transported to St. Joseph Hospital London by Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County to check its well-being.

Deputies noted that the child had several large bruises on his legs, chest and torso.

Through investigation deputies learned that the child had been struck with a belt by the mother and grandmother. They also learned that the last time the child had been seen was inside their residence at approximately 5:30 AM Wednesday morning.

The two individuals arrested were identified as:

Angelica C. Mason age 24of Sturdivant Morgan Rd., Corbin charged with criminal abuse – first-degree. 

Bobbi F. Cross age 45 of Morgan Sturdivant Rd., Corbin charged with wanton endangerment – first-degree.

These two individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
