Counterfeit bills found in Knox County roadway

KNOX COUNTY, KY -(Monday April 23, 2018) - The Knox County Sheriff's Department is reporting that on Friday January 19, 2018 eight (8) fake $100 bills were found in the middle of the roadway on KY 3438 in the Long Branch area of Knox County.

The bills were turned in to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office on April 23, 2018.

These type of bills are printed in China and are used as a training tool to teach Chinese tellers to count American money. The bills, which come in all dominations, contain Chinese writing either pink or purple in color and translates into “not to be used as real currency”.

Sheriff Mike Smith cautions everyone to take a really hard look when accepting large bills, thoroughly inspecting them by looking for any abnormal features including the pink or purple Chinese writing. These bills are being purchased on the internet and are becoming increasingly common in the US.
