KSP - Fatal Traffic Crash / Laurel County



London, Ky. (March 22, 2018) - On Thursday, March 22, 2018 at approximately 4:47 PM, Kentucky State Police Post 11, London received a report of a two-vehicle traffic crash with a fatality involving a Kentucky State Police Vehicle Enforcement Officer on interstate 75 near the 33 mile marker in Laurel County.

KSP Critical Incident Response Team responded to the scene and determined that a 2017 Ford Explorer operated by Kentucky State Police Vehicle Enforcement Officer Christopher McQueen, 33, of Corbin was traveling northbound when a 1995 Cadillac Eldorado operated by John D. McQueen, 85, of London was previously parked on the right hand shoulder of the roadway.

Preliminary investigation indicates that John McQueen attempted to make an illegal left handed turn across the northbound lanes of interstate-75 in front of oncoming traffic in an attempt to go back southbound when he was struck by Officer McQueen.

Christopher McQueen and his passenger Mary K. Reed, 55, of Corbin was transported to the Saint Joseph Hospital in London where they are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

John McQueen who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Laurel County Coroner’s Office.

The KSP Critical Incident Response Team is continuing the investigation. They were assisted by Troopers from Post 11, Laurel County Coroner’s Office and Laurel County EMS.
