Leader McConnell Joins Kentucky Small Business Advocates to Highlight Importance of Tax Reform

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) joined Republican Senators, U.S. Small Business Administration Administrator Linda McMahon, and small business advocates from Kentucky and around the country on Thursday for an event to talk about how tax reform will help American workers.

We are happy to have Linda McMahon here and I'm particularly pleased to have Alan Keck from Somerset, Kentucky, one of our great small business people.”
Senator McConnell spoke about the Senate’s efforts to overhaul our complex tax code and shift our economy into high gear, saying, “We are in the stretch, horse racing is kind of a big deal in Kentucky. We are going down the home stretch, headed toward the finish line…What’s in this for the American people and for small businesses obviously is tax relief. An opportunity to hire more people, to build more in America, and to get the growth rate up.”

He is the President of Somerset Recycling and the founder of Keck Sports Management, a professional baseball agency. Keck spoke about how tax reform will help his family and small business.

“As a small business owner we’re expected to wear many, many hats,” said Keck. “But I want to touch on something that might be a little bit more personal, the compliance that we have as small business owners that we have to face the regulatory burden. The tax simplification in this reform is what excites me because every hour I don’t have to waste dealing with that is an hour at home with my daughters, is an hour at church serving in my youth group, perhaps for many of you it’s an hour on a La-Z-Boy reading a book that you care about. But we spend billions of dollars…dealing with this compliance issue and its wasteful, it’s silly.”
Yesterday, the Senate took a crucial step toward relief, voting to proceed to debate of the tax reform legislation. The Senate continues to work through an open amendment process where members from both parties will have the opportunity to offer their ideas.
