K-9 Alert Results in Drug Arrest at Crash Scene in Southeastern Kentucky

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Dylan Messer along with K-9 Deputy Jake Miller and his K-9 “Maverick” arrested Jonathan Tanner Allen age 34 of Gum Sulfur Road, Crab Orchard, KY on Wednesday morning September 23, 2020 at approximately 10:18 AM.

The arrest occurred on I–75 approximately 5 miles north of London while deputies were investigating a two vehicle noninjury traffic crash which occurred there.

Deputies report that apparently Jonathan Allen was operating a maroon colored GMC Yukon that struck another vehicle in the rear while traveling southbound on I–75.

An investigation was conducted by deputies and the driver of the Yukon – Jonathan Tanner Allen was determined to be under the influence.

In addition, Deputy Jake Miller's K-9 ”Maverick” alerted on the vehicle during a walk around.

As a result, deputies found:

  • A pill bottle with white residue substance
  • Syringes
  • A bag containing suspected Methamphetamine and Marijuana

Jonathan Tanner Allen was charged with:

  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense
  • Possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Drug paraphernalia
  • Following another vehicle too closely
  • Careless driving
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Failure to wear seatbelts

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
