Man accused of attempting to sale an African American child in Corbin, Ky. / Mother arrested for drugs

CORBIN, KY – On Sunday August 16, 2020 the Kentucky State Police, Post 10 in Harlan received a call that a male individual was attempting to sale a child at the Speedy Mart in Corbin.

According to the investigation, this individual was attempting to sale an African American child for $2,500.

A description and license plate of the vehicle was reported to KSP.

Troopers were able to locate the white Nissan at an address on Spider Creek Road in Corbin.

Troopers were able to locate the child at the residence of Gertrude Hinson, the mother of the child.

While at the residence troopers found Methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Both Hinson and Harry Day admitted to recent use of Methamphetamine earlier in the day.

Harry Day was charged with:

  • Promoting human trafficking child U/18
  • DUI

Gertrude Hinson was charged with:

  • Possession of Methamphetamine
  • Possession of controlled substance 3rd,
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • 2 counts of endangering the welfare of a minor

These two individuals were lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.

On Monday, August 17, 2020 Harry Day was sentenced to 360 days in jail after pleading guilty in District Court to Promoting human trafficking (Victim U/18 YOA), the DUI charge was dropped.

At the time of this report, Gertrude Hinson is being held in the Knox County Detention Center on a $5,000.00 cash bond. Her next court appearance is set for 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 25, 2020.

The case remains under investigation by TPR Kyle Trosper.
