Coach Bobby Keith was born November 27, 1940 in Clay County, KY where he spent his entire life. He departed this life Wednesday evening, October 5, 2016.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Peggy Dobson Keith and by their two children: Robert Frederick Keith, wife Crystal (Covington) and Stephanie Keith Gregory, husband Quinton(Manchester). Also surviving are two grandchildren, Caitlyn Gregory and Cameron Gregory both of Richmond, KY. He is also survived by two sisters, Wanda and Josephine.
He also leaves to mourn his passing an entire community whose greatest moment in time was when he led the Clay County Tigers to their first and only State Championship in 1987. Not happy with just one, he led the Tigers to back to back Championship games in 1988. He coached for Clay County High School 27 years, leading teams to the big dance eighteen times and to the final four five times. His teams won 767 games with only 124 losses, including 129 straight home court games. The Tigers also hold the state record for 17 years-in-a-row appearances.
He was voted "Coach of The Decade" for the accolades of the 1980's and in 1992 Clay County High School Gym officially became the "Bobby Keith Gymnasium." He was voted Kentucky High School Coach of the year Five times. He played basketball at Lindsey Wilson Junior college and Union College, where he was inducted into both Lindsey Wilson College Hall of Fame and Union college Hall Of Fame. Coach Keith was also inducted into WYMT Mountain Classic Hall of Fame, Clay County High School Athletic hall of Fame, Dawahare's Kentucky Hall of Fame, and Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame, and Kentucky High School Basketball Association Hall of Fame.
Visitation For Bobby R. Keith will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Saturday, October 8th, 2016 at the Bobby Keith Gymnasium at Clay County High School, Manchester, KY.
Funeral services for Bobby R. Keith will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, October 9th, 2016 at the Bobby Keith Gymnasium at the Clay County High School, Manchester, KY.
Ken Bolin and Mike White will be officiating, along with other speakers. Burial will follow in the Manchester Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to "Coach Bobby Keith Memorial Scholarship Fund."
