Betty Jean Allen, 72, of Oneida, was born, April 15, 1941, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013 at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard.
She was married to Homer D. Allen in fall of 1973, and preceded in death by him.
She was a member of the Clay County Homemakers, a board member at the Cumberland valley District Health Department and the Clay County Health Department, a former member of the Oneida Fire Dept., Volunteer at the Clay County Genealogical & Historical Society, an RN at the Oneida Mountain Hospital, the first on Campus RN at OBI in 1973, volunteered at the Seventh-Day Adventist church with community services, was an RN at an Orlando, Florida Hospital, and also an RN at the Glendale Medical Center in Glendale, California.
She is survived by her children: Ethan Allen, and wife, Connie, of Oneida, Marti Allen, of Oneida, and Davie Ransdell, and husband, Thomas, of Frankfort, KY.
She is also survived by two grandchildren, Joshua Allen, and wife, Stephanie,Thomas Ransdell, and one great grandchild, Madison Jean Allen, and these sisters, Carolyn Coolidge, of Collegedale, TN, Ellen Spencer, of Chattanooga, TN, and Flo Parkhurst, of Springfield, TN.
Funeral services for Betty Jean Allen will be held at 2 PM Sunday at the Britton Funeral Home Chapel with Fred Caukins officiating. Burial will follow in the Allen Family Cemetery at Oneida. Visitation will be after 6 PM Saturday at the Britton Funeral Home.
