Obituary for Patricia Root

On the 23rd of July, Pat left this world to rejoin beloved family members she watched leave before her.

They include Earl Hobbs (father), Bessie Rice Hobbs (mother), Dianne Hobbs Williams (sister), Wendell Root (husband), Randall Gene Root (son), Bessie Renee’ Root (daughter), and Trevor Allen States (nephew). Pat loved her family, her friends, and her Lord, Jesus Christ; all of whom she credits with the emotional support required to overcome the pain of losing her children Bessie and Randy at ages 14 and 34.

Pat was a member of the Lyttleton Baptist Church for many years. She enjoyed lifting her voice in praise as a member of The Lyttleton Girls and singing familiar hymns of her youth with her church family. Pat loved her career as a hairdresser, she owned her beauty shop in Manchester for over 50 years, and spoke often about her loyal friends who were also her customers.

Anyone who knew Pat Root knows how much she loved to “cut up”, play games, and have a good time with friends and family. She was an entertaining storyteller, amateur impressionist, strategic card player, and loved to laugh; especially when her first cousins were there to join in and encourage her shenanigans. Pat’s family knows she was fiercely loyal, generous, nurturing, and a very talented cook.

She loved to cook for and feed her family. And it was impossible to dispute her claims that she made the best chicken and dumplins, meatballs, turkey and dressing, steak and gravy, and most anything that came out of her kitchen, because we all knew her claims were absolutely true. Pat will be deeply missed by her family and friends who have to say goodbye to her stories, her smile, her laugh, those made from scratch comfort foods, and her cooky sense of humor.

She leaves behind her brother Ernie Hobbs (Beth); half-sister Lisa Arnett; nieces Lolita Grant (Scott), Jessica States, and Ashley Williams; nephews Jeff Williams, Earl Williams, Sr. (Ashley), Austin States, Earl Williams Jr, Connor Grant, and dozens of cousins, nieces and nephews too numerous to list here.

Funeral Services for Pat will be conducted on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 12 PM at the Lyttleton Baptist Church. Rev. Allen Roberts and Rev. John Boley will be presiding. She will be laid to rest in the Rice Cemetery in the Lyttleton Community.

The family will receive friends and loved ones on Friday evening from 5 PM until 8 PM at the Rominger Funeral Home Chapel.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Rominger Funeral Home.
