Susie Barger was born June 29, 1932 in Harlan, Kentucky a daughter of the late Theo and Maude Ledford Martin. She was a homemaker and a member of the Mt. Paran Baptist Church at Saul, Kentucky. Susie was an avid cook and enjoyed caring for her children and gardening. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Susie departed this life on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at the Baptist Health in Lexington, Kentucky. She was 88 years old.
In addition to her parents, Susie was preceded in death by her best friend & husband of 56 years, Claude Barger, five brothers, Eugene, Calvin, Winston, Gary, C.H., and Norman Martin and one sister, Nancy Kilburn.
Susie leaves behind four sons, Jimmy Ray Barger & Kathy of Scottsburg, IN, Anderson Darrell Barger & Linda of Crothersville, IN, Edmond Barger & Elzie of Hyden, KY and Jerry Barger & Lisa Roark of Saul, KY; five daughters, Darlene Collins of Lexington, IN, Janice Faye Collins & David of Indianapolis, IN, Jeannie Couch & Howard of Oneida, KY, Susie K. Joseph of Lexington, KY and Crystal Lynn Williams & Robert of London, KY.
Other survivors include, one brother, Denny Martin of Bowling Green, KY, and two sisters, Nora Sizemore of TX and Loretta Hall of Pineville, KY. Twelve cherished grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. – Tuesday, November 17, 2020 in the chapel of Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home with Robert Rice and her son, Edmond Barger officiating. Interment will follow the services at the Granville Barger Cemetery at Saul, Kentucky. The Barger family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. – Monday evening at the funeral home chapel.
