David Rex Lewis was born August 25, 1940 in Leslie County, Kentucky to the union of the late Bill and Florence Vanover Lewis. By occupation, David was a retired coal miner and school bus driver. David was a caring person and was always there for people when they needed him. He enjoyed reading the Bible and listening to gospel music. Above all, David enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. David departed this life on Monday, February 17, 2020 at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital. He was 79 years old.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn; four sisters, Lorraine Coots, Barbara Washburn, Evelyn Bowling, and Vickie Lynn Busam; one brother, Daniel Keith Lewis.
David leaves behind, four sons, Charles Lewis (Polly) of Wooton, KY, David Lewis (Tonya) of Wooton, KY, William Lewis (Melissa) of London, KY, and David Keith Lewis of Hyden, KY; two daughters, Angela Pennington (Rodney) of Stinnett, KY and Misty Coots of Hazard, KY; one brother, Harry Reid Lewis of Wooton, KY; three sisters, Joan Lewis of Manchester, KY, Loretta Slone Louisville, KY and Donna Lewis of Somerset, KY; twelve grandchildren; four- great grandchildren; special friend, Leslie Sams; also a host of other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral: 1 P.M. - Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Wolfe officiating.
Interment: Grassy Gap Cemetery - Wooton, KY
Visitation: 11 A.M. - 1 P.M. - Saturday at the chapel
