Obituary for Reverend Teddy Collett

The Reverend Ted Collett, 63, returned to his heavenly home on June 6, 2018, after a valiant battle with a long illness. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. Ted was a good father, grandfather and devoted husband. His faith led him to homes of those who needed the word of God and encouragement in their of need.

Ted didn’t want others to mourn his passing in sorrow but celebrate his life and commitment to God. Ted was born to the late Robert Collett and Hazel Roark-Collett-Slusher in Beverly, KY on June 14, 1954, and spent his entire life in the Red Bird Community.

Ted was a welder, mechanic and electrician for 27 years before his retirement. Ted was saved on August 17, 1993 and ordained as a minister on July 20, 1996. Ted continued to preach the word of God and minister to others for the remainder of his life.

Ted was blessed with a large and loving family. He married his best friend, Shirley on June 5, 1972. Ted and Shirley were blessed with three children, Connie Jo Baker, Ted Rodney Collett and Norma Sue Collett.

Ted is survived by his wife, Shirley Collett; his daughter, Connie Jo and Kevin Baker; grandchildren, Benjamin Caleb Baker; Elijah Collett Baker and Joshua Ray Knuckles; brother, Tommy and Wilma Collett; sister, Sue and Bob Simpson; sisters-in-law, Kay Knuckles and Sharon Knuckles; and very special sister-in-law, Jo Fallin; brother-in-law, Malcomb and Tonya Asher and Ray and Shirlene Knuckles. Ted is survived by many special nephews, nieces, family and friends.

Ted was preceded in death by parents, Robert and Hazel; brothers, Charlie, Bige, Lee, George, John, Joe, Wiley, Carl and Albert; sisters, Nancy, Mossie and Gracie, daughter, Norma Sue and son, Rodney.

Family and friends will be celebrating Ted’s life on June 9, 2018 at Arnett & Steele Funeral Home from 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM. Celebration of life services will be held at the Beverly United Methodist Church on June 10, 2018 at 1:00 PM and officiated by Reverend J.D. Hensley and Rev. Junior Bowling. Special music will be provided by family and friends. Ted will be laid to rest at Slusher No. 4 Cemetery at the foot of Red Bird Mountain.
