Three of the arrests occurred at Walmart near Corbin in southern Laurel County and a fourth arrest occurred at a nearby fuel station after off duty Deputy John Inman was approached by a local citizen who recognized him to be a deputy, & advising him that he had observed a pregnant woman very bad under the influence inside Walmart.
Deputy Inman was able to locate the female subject inside the store and learned that she had arrived there in a 1998 red Chevrolet 4 door vehicle.
An investigation was conducted and the female subject was determined to be under the influence. Once outside the store, 2 backup on duty units (Deputy Brandon Broughton, and Deputy Keith Dinsmore) arrived at the scene to assist on the investigation.
The vehicle the female subject had arrived at the store in was located in the parking lot and two male subjects were found in the vehicle along with a baby in a car seat. The two male subjects were both determined to be under the influence. Pills were found within reach of the baby. Also pills and a syringe were found in the front of the vehicle.
Social services was notified and all three subjects there were arrested. The baby's father was one of the three arrested. The baby's mother was not present but was notified to come to the scene to pick up her baby, however she never arrived at the scene and relatives there advised that she probably would not show up to pick up the child due to outstanding warrants and an alleged substance abuse problem.
