Arrest in Laurel County after alleged altercation involving a knife & a machete


Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Deputy Kyle Gray along with Detective Kevin Berry arrested a Schell Road resident on the morning September 21, 2016 at approximately 11:15 AM.

Arrested was Ronald Moran age 65 of Schell Road, London, KY.

The arrest approximately 3 miles south of London off Schell Road after deputies were dispatched to a complaint that a male subject had allegedly used a knife and had cut his brother-in-law several times. Apparently he also had a machete and was threatening the same brother-in-law.

When deputies arrived at the scene they learned that the suspect had apparently been inside the residence during the assault. Deputies and detectives entered the residence and following a brief scuffle the suspect was arrested.

Deputies conducted an investigation and learned that an altercation had apparently occurred inside the residence and continued outside the residence. The victim received numerous cuts to his stomach, side and back. The victim was transported to St. Joseph Hospital London for treatment of injuries.

Ronald Moran was charged with assault – first-degree; wanton endangerment – first-degree; disorderly conduct – second degree; criminal mischief – third-degree; and resisting arrest and was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

Assisting at the scene on the arrest and investigation was Maj. Rodney VanZant, Capt. Chuck Johnson, Lieut. Greg Poynter, Sgt. Brett Reeves, Deputy Josh Scott, Detective Jason Back, and Detective James Sizemore.

Also assisting was Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County.
