Maryland Troopers Locate and Save Suicidal Person

(ELDERSBURG, MD) — Two Maryland state troopers are being commended for their quick actions yesterday that led to the location of a woman attempting to commit suicide in a Carroll County reservoir.

Just after 5:00 p.m. yesterday, a husband called Maryland State Police at the Westminster Barrack reporting he received text messages from his wife stating she was contemplating suicide. The only information regarding her location was that she was at the Liberty Reservoir on Rt. 26 at the Carroll/Baltimore County line.

Trooper First Class Adam Fiorentino and Corporal Brett Stoops of the Westminster Barrack responded to the area and quickly located the woman’s car on the shoulder of Rt. 26. The two troopers began an immediate search of the wooded area between the road and the water.

Reaching the reservoir, TFC Fiorentino found the woman lying under the water. He rescued her from the lake and determined she was unconscious, but still breathing. TFC Fiorentino carried the woman up the steep incline through the woods to the shoulder of the road, where EMS personnel had arrived.

The woman was transported to the hospital for medical care. She was expected to survive.

“The actions of TFC Fiorentino and Cpl. Stoops exemplify the commitment and dedication to duty exhibited by members of the Maryland State Police and allied law enforcement agencies every day,” First Sergeant J. Michael Knight, assistant commander of the Westminster Barrack, said. “Lt. McCrory and I are proud of them and their actions that saved a life and upheld the highest traditions of the Maryland State Police.”
