Fatal House Fire in Harlan County

Blair, Ky. (July 15, 2016) – Kentucky State Police Post 10 in Harlan is investigating a house fire that has claimed the life of one man. KSP received a call of the fire located on Old US Highway 119 in the Blair community of Harlan County early Friday morning. Callers on 911 reported that the dwelling was fully engulfed in flames.

Cumberland City Police Department was dispatched to the scene and upon arrival, confirmed from neighbors that the occupant was still inside the home.

Trooper Jacob Spurlock arrived on scene shortly thereafter. Fire departments from Benham, Cumberland and Putney responded to the scene and discovered the remains inside the home. KSP Detective Kevin Miller and KSP arson investigator, Det. Clarence Gabbard were dispatched to the scene along with Harlan County Deputy Coroner Jim Bush, Harlan County Emergency Management Director, David McGill and Kentucky Deputy State Fire Marshall David Broderick.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and the body will be sent to the Medical Examiner’s office in Frankfort for an autopsy. No foul play is suspected. The identity of the deceased has not been confirmed at this time.

The incident is being investigated by detectives Miller and Gabbard.
