Robbery arrest in southern Laurel County


Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Deputy Shawn Jackson along with Deputy Shannon Jones arrested Daniel Bennett age 33 Of East Hwy. 312, Corbin early Wednesday morning July 6, 2016 at approximately 3 AM.

The arrest occurred off Ky 312, approximately 11 miles south of London after deputies investigated a theft complaint where allegedly this subject drove to a fireworks tent and unlawfully removed property not belonging to him and continued to do this on several occasions. Deputies learned through investigation that numerous neighbors witnessed the theft notifying the female business owner who came to the scene.

When the owner approached the suspect, he attempted the use of force and while attempting to flee almost ran over the female victim/owner. The suspect sped away from the scene almost striking another vehicle.

Deputies located the suspect, arrested him and transported him to the Laurel County Sheriff's office to be processed. While at the Sheriff's office, this subject became aggressive and combative and attempted to kick deputies as he screamed and cursed deputies and damaged a wall and bench in the booking room at the Sheriff's office. This subject had to be physically escorted to the Laurel County detention Center.

Daniel Bennett was charged with robbery – first-degree; wanton endangerment – first-degree; menacing; resisting arrest; and criminal mischief – third-degree.

Daniel Bennett was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center. Deputy Brandon Broughton assisted on the investigation.
