London, KY - On Friday, June 17, 2016 Detective Chris Roberts, from the Kentucky State Police Post 11, London, was honored at a state wide award ceremony held in Lexington. Detective Roberts was awarded the local post “Detective of the Year” for the Kentucky State Police Post 11, London.

Details of Detective Roberts achievements which led to the award are as follows: Detective Roberts began his career with the Kentucky State Police in October of 2003 as a cadet in Class 81 and was assigned to the Pikeville Post upon graduation. He was assigned to Post 9 for 1 year and 8 months before transferring to the London Post in 2005.
Upon arrival at Post 11 he was assigned to work Clay County, where the community trusted and embraced his work ethic. Detective Roberts is extremely involved in local athletics where he devotes a large portion of his time. He also participates in the annual “Shop with a Trooper” program. Detective Roberts was intra-post transferred to the Detective Squad in July, 2014. Since becoming part of Investigations, Detective Roberts duties are to investigate drug related crimes in Clay, Laurel, Rockcastle, Pulaski, McCreary, Wayne and Whitley Counties. Detective Roberts has opened cases in each county and is diligently working towards convictions in all of them. In 2015 Detective Roberts opened 48 cases for Trafficking in Controlled Substances. These cases inolved multiple narcotic purchases from working with numerous informants.On March 5, 2015, Detective Roberts conducted an investigation which led to the execution of search warrants at 2 separate residences in Rockcastle County. The search warrants yielded the arrests of 8 people with the seizures of 1 Nissan passenger car, 20 firearms, and $6032.00 in U.S. currency. The warrants were the result of numerous narcotic purchases made by informants working for Detective Roberts.
In September, 2015, the investigative unit from Post 11 was assisting Trooper Millard Root U/276 with a missing person complaint. During the course of the investigation, the victim was discovered deceased and handled as a homicide. Interviews led the investigations towards a known drug trafficker from Rockcastle County. On September 28, 2015, an overdose at a Rockcastle hotel also led investigators to the same suspect. Detective Roberts along with Detective Ryan Loudermilk U/471, secured and excecuted a search warrant at the residence of Logan Ray Towery. Mr. Towery was arrested and the search warrant yielded a seizure of $23,180 in U.S. currency, 341 Zanaz Bars, 281 Oxycodone tablets, 50 Zubsolv tablets, 1/2 ounce of Marijuana, a 2013 Nissan Altima, a 1974 Chevrolet Corvette, a 2003 Honda motorcycle, and 9 firearms.
On December 9, 2015, the investigative unit from Post 11 was called to a double homicide in Clay County. During the course of the investigation detectives discovered the victim's ATM card had been used. The suspect was located and interviewed. Detective Roberts assisted with the interview and took the suspect to a location where a firearm had been sold. Detective Roberts also assisted in serving the search warrant with a successful attempt at locating the firearm.
Although Detective Roberts concentrates his efforts in working narcotics in the above mentioned counties, he is always eager to assist in other areas and does so routinely. This requires remarkable time-management skills and organizational abilities. Further, his ability to deal effectively with multiple prosecutors is a reflection of his personality.
