KSP Charges Nelson Co. Man With Child Sexual Exploitation Offenses


BARDSTOWN, Ky. (June 20, 2016)— On June 16, 2016, at approximately 4:00 p.m., the Kentucky State Police Electronic Crime Branch, assisted by KSP Post 4-Elizabethtown, arrested Brenton T. Byrd, 36, on charges related to possession and distribution of matter portraying a sex performance by a minor.

Byrd was arrested as the result of an undercover Internet Crimes Against Children investigation. The KSP Electronic Crime Branch began the investigation after discovering the suspect sharing images of child sexual exploitation online. Byrd distributed images of sexual acts involving children.

The investigation resulted in the execution of a search warrant at Byrd’s residence in Bardstown on June 16, 2016. Equipment was seized and is pending a forensic examination.

Byrd is currently charged with 20 counts of possession and 10 counts of distribution of matter portraying a sex performance by a minor. Each charge is a Class-D felony punishable by one to five years in prison. Additional charges are expected.

Byrd was lodged in the Nelson County Detention Center.
