Subject Arrested for Resisting Arrest, Possession of Controlled Substance, and Assaulting Deputy - Knox County

KCSD OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE - On June 16, 2016 Deputy Keith Liford arrested David A. Bays age 38 of Bryants Store, KY at his residence on Powers Branch Road.

Deputy Liford was attempting to serve a Knox County Felony Indictment Warrant for Bail Jumping, 1st Degree and a Knox County Felony Bench Warrant for Robbery, 1st Degree, Assault, 1st Degree and Burglary, 1st Degree. During the arrest Deputy Liford observed a small bottle type container in David Bays’ hand.

When Deputy Liford asked David Bays for the container, he put the container inside his mouth and became aggressive attacking Deputy Liford.

After a brief intense struggle inside the residence in which David Bays assaulted Deputy Liford by getting him around the neck in a headlock type hold, Deputy Liford was able to break free and deploy his Taser which ended the resistance.

The plastic bottle contained several small plastic bags of suspected methamphetamine.

In addition to the warrants, Deputy Liford charged David Bays with Resisting arrest, Assault, 3rd Degree/Police Officer, Possession of Controlled Substance, 1st Degree, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Criminal Mischief, 3rd Degree and Menacing.

David Bays was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.

Deputy Liford suffered a small cut to a finger and damage to his eye glasses.
