KSP Investigates Fatal Collision in Mercer County

HARRODSBURG, Ky. (June 17, 2016)— The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post is investigating a fatal collision that happened on US 127 north of Harrodsburg in Mercer County, just before 2:20 pm yesterday afternoon.

The initial investigation indicates that a 2005 Ford Crown Victoria driven by Scott R. Alcorn, 59 years old of Taylorsville, was traveling north on US 127 near the Anderson Dean Park. It appears that Alcorn slowed down to avoid colliding with an oncoming vehicle that had crossed into his path, and was rear ended by a semi-truck that was being operated by Duane Brownell, 47 years old of Greenbrier, TN. Alcorn was fatally injured in the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Mercer County Coroner.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Detective Jeff Stith. He was assisted at the scene by KSP Personnel, Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, Mercer County EMS, and the Mercer County Coroner.
