Children tour the Laurel County Sheriff's Office

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: 19 children from London Christian Academy visited the Laurel County Sheriff's office on Friday morning April 22, 2016 at 10 AM.

The boys and girls were met by Deputy Gilbert Acciardo who conducted a tour of the Sheriff's office. Deputy Acciardo talked to the boys and girls about community helpers and provided information about the Sheriff's office and its duties. He also talked to the boys and girls about deputies, detectives, court security officers and other staff and their duties that are performed daily to keep Laurel County citizens safe, and their profession of serving their community.

The boys and girls talked about a uniformed deputy's equipment where each piece of defensive equipment was examined. The boys and girls also talked about gun safety, the 911 phone calling system for emergencies, saying no to drugs and the boys and girls learned that police officers are their friends.

At the conclusion of the tour, the children went outside and were able to examine a fully marked fully equipped Sheriff's deputy's police cruiser.

Sheriff Root commented that: "Our children are the future of our county!"
