Trailer loaded with rolled bales of hay on fire shuts down KY 30 in Laurel County

Laurel County, Ky. - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Deputy Brandon Broughton along with numerous other emergency agencies responded to a fire that occurred along the roadway on KY 30 at the intersection with KY 3630 near the Laurel/Jackson County line on Thursday afternoon August 27, 2015 at approximately 2:30 PM.

Reportedly, a Dodge pickup truck pulling a 30 foot gooseneck trailer loaded with round bales of hay caught fire as it traveled southbound along the roadway on KY 30 causing a huge fire with dense smoke covering the roadway and creating a traffic hazard in that area.

KY 30 was shut down for approximately 2 hours while the blaze was battled by three local volunteer fire departments. It is unknown exactly what caused the fire on the trailer. The truck was able to get disconnected from the trailer saving it, but the trailer was a total loss.

Reportedly the load of hay was headed to the McWhorter section of Laurel County.

Agencies involved in bringing the fire under control included McWhorter Volunteer Fire Department, East Bernstadt Volunteer Fire Department, and Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department.

Also assisting at the scene was Justin Noe with the Laurel County Department of Public Safety and the Kentucky State Highway Department.
