(Lancaster, KY) — On Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at approximately 7:37 a.m. EDT, the Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post received a report of a traffic collision involving a Nicholasville Police vehicle and two other vehicles in Garrard County.
The collision happened just after 7:00 a.m. on Highway 27 in Garrard County, just south of the Jessamine County line.
The initial investigation indicates Officer Burke Rhoads, 35 years old of Nicholasville, was traveling south on HWY 27 in his issued Nicholasville Police cruiser. A White 2012 Chevrolet Cruze, operated by Chasity Gordon, 41 years old of Lancaster, turned left off of HWY 1845, colliding with Rhoads' vehicle, causing Rhoads to lose control. Rhoads travelled into the oncoming lane, and collided with a 2010 Black Cadillac SUV, operated by Sean Abraham, 47 years old of Lancaster.
Officer Burke Rhoads was transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital, where he pronounced deceased by the Fayette County Coroner.
Chasity Gordon was transported to Ephriam McDowell Hospital in Danville with minor injuries.
Sean Abraham and two passengers from inside the Cadillac were transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by Trooper Jeff Stith and the KSP Accident Reconstruction Team. Trooper Stith was assisted at the scene by KSP Personnel, Nicholasville PD, Garrard County Sheriff's Office, and Garrard County Fire & Rescue.
