LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's shift Sgt. Allen Turner arrested James Elswick, age 45 of Williamsburg, KY on Tuesday afternoon March 18, 2025 at approximately 3:52 PM.
The arrest occurred on the I-75 exit 29 southbound off ramp to KY 770 approximately 10 miles south of London, following a traffic stop conducted by Sgt. Turner on a gray Chevrolet Silverado as Sgt. Turner was responding to a call for service.
The stopped vehicle was observed directly behind Sgt. Turner following his patrol vehicle too closely and the driver was observed apparently utilizing his cell phone to record while the vehicle was in motion.
Upon stopping, the driver was contacted by Sgt. Turner who noted the driver was yelling at him. The driver refused to identify himself and upon arrest the driver pulled away from Sgt. Turner and began cursing him. The driver continued to refuse to identify himself. This subject was later identified as James E. Elswick, age 45 of Williamsburg, KY and transported to the Laurel County Correctional Center.
James Elswick was charged with:
- FOLLOWING EMERGENCY VEHICLE TOO CLOSELY
- COMMUNICATION DEVICE VIOLATION, 1ST OFF.
- GIVING OFFICER FALSE IDENTIFYING INFORMATION
- RESISTING ARREST
This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
