Semi Truck Collides with a KYTC Snow Plow on Interstate 24

EDDYVILLE, KY (February 18, 2025) – Kentucky State Police report that KSP Post 1 troopers are currently investigating a collision that occurred on I-24 near the 36 mile marker in Lyon County involving a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) snow plow. KSP is reminding motorists to give snow plows extra room. Don't crowd the plow.

At 6:47pm CT, KSP Post 1 began receiving multiple calls regarding a semi truck that had collided with a KYTC snow plow. Initial investigation shows a 2018 Freightliner snow plow, operated by KYTC, was treating and plowing I-24 eastbound at the 36 mile marker. A 2014 Freightliner truck pulling a box trailer, operated by Dawit Tirago, 40 years old of Snellville, GA was also traveling eastbound. Due to hazardous conditions from the snow covered roadways and limited visibility as the snow continues to fall, the truck operated by Tirago collided with the rear end of the KYTC snow plow. No injuries were reported.

Traffic is being directed through the KSP Commercial Vehicle Scale Facility at the 36 mile marker while the collision scene is cleared.

KSP Post 1 is advising the public that road conditions have quickly become hazardous and snowfall is expected to continue across the district throughout the overnight hours. We ask that everyone avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. If you must get out, reduce speeds and don't crowd the plows.
