Arrest after Double Fatal Collision on US 68 in Marion County, Kentucky

LEBANON, KY – Kentucky State Police (KSP) report that on Saturday evening November 2, 2024, at 6:20 P.M. EDT, Post 15 Troopers responded to a two-vehicle fatal collision that occurred on US 68, near the intersection of Jessietown Road in Marion County.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Erick Alonzo Garcia, 20, of Lebanon, was traveling west on US 68 in a 2005 Dodge Ram when he crossed the centerline of the roadway, entered the eastbound lane and dropped off the roadway. Mr. Garcia steered his vehicle back into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox operated by Roy Wright, 75, of Lebanon, traveling east on US 68.

A passenger in Mr. Wright’s vehicle, Deborah Wright, 72, of Lebanon, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Marion County Coroner. Roy Wright was transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by the Fayette County Coroner. 

Kentucky State Police arrested Mr. Garcia, the driver of the 2005 Dodge Ram.

Erick Garcia was was charged with: 

  • CARELESS DRIVING
  • OPER MTR VEHICLE U/INFL ALC .08 (189A.010(1A) - 1ST (AGG CIR)
  • WANTON ENDANGERMENT-1ST DEGREE
  • ASSAULT, 1ST DEGREE
  • VEHICULAR HOMICIDE WHEN UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL
  • FAILURE TO PRODUCE INSURANCE CARD

This individual was lodged in the Marion County Detention Center where, according to jail records at the time of this publishing, he is being held on a $2,000,000.00 CASH bond.

KSP Post 15 Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Marion County Fire and EMS, Marion County Rescue Squad and Marion County Coroner.
