SOMERSET, KY – U.S. Rep. Harold "Hal" Rogers, Dean of the House, won a historic 23rd consecutive term to represent Kentucky's Fifth Congressional District. Rogers was endorsed by President Donald Trump and defeated three opponents in the primary election with nearly 82% of the vote, winning the Republican nomination.
He was unopposed in the general election and remains the longest-serving Kentuckian ever elected to a federal office. He issued the following victory statement:
"I'm honored that the people of southern and eastern Kentucky continue to faithfully trust me to echo their voice on Capitol Hill. Together, we have made great strides to improve our rural Appalachian region with stronger infrastructure and more innovative opportunities than ever before. We've gone to battle in our communities to drive down overdose death rates, clean up our region and create more jobs. More of our students are graduating with college degrees in growing industries, like space science and medicine, right here at home as well. Great things are in store for our counties and our work is not yet finished.
"As we look ahead nationwide, we must secure our southern border, stop the flow of fentanyl and other illegal drugs from flooding into our communities, and end the crippling inflation that is bankrupting American families. We must restore hope across America."
As the longest-serving Member of the House, Rogers became the Dean in 2022. He has served on the House Appropriations Committee for more than 40 years, securing vital federal funding to revitalize southern and eastern Kentucky. His vision for a stronger region spurred some of rural Kentucky's greatest success stories. Organizations such as Operation UNITE, Shaping Our Appalachian Region (SOAR), Southeast Kentucky Economic Development Corporation (SKED), and the Center for Rural Development have brought local communities together by providing hope in the fight against drugs, boosting our coal communities with new resources, strengthening our infrastructure, supporting small business development and advancing innovative opportunities.
