Kentucky State Police Arrest Man After Pursuit on I-65

ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (Oct. 25, 2024) - The Kentucky State Police (KSP) and local agencies were involved in a vehicle pursuit on I-65 Thursday afternoon, which led to the arrest of an Alabama man.

On Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024, around 4:00 EDT, a trooper was conducting speed enforcement on I-65 North near the 61-mile marker when he stopped a Dodge Challenger for speeding. After making contact with the driver, Jecore King, 26, of Eight Mile, AL, the trooper asked Mr. King to step outside the vehicle after the trooper smelled the possible presence of marijuana in the car. After asking Mr. King to step outside the vehicle, a struggle ensued before King returned to the car and fled from the trooper northbound on I-65.

During the pursuit, King passed other vehicles in the emergency lane, reaching speeds of 130 mph. Around the 85-mile marker, the Dodge collided with an embankment. Mr. King fled on foot with a handgun into a cornfield adjacent to the interstate and a perimeter was established with the assistance of the Elizabethtown Police Department and the Hardin Co. Sheriff’s Office.

After several hours, with the assistance of the Elizabethtown Police Department’s special response team and KSP’s aircraft branch, Mr. King was located and arrested without incident and lodged in the Hardin Co. Detention Center.

King was charged with fleeing and evading, reckless driving, resisting arrest, wanton endangerment and other traffic-related offenses.

Northbound I-65 and South Dixie Hwy in the Glendale area were shut down out of an abundance of caution for public safety. KSP Post 4 was assisted by the Elizabethtown Police Department, Hardin Co. Sheriff’s Department and the KSP’s aircraft branch. The case remains under investigation.
