Louisville, KY Woman Arrested after Fatal Three Vehicle Collision at Intersection of US 460 and KY Route 114 in Magoffin Co.

SALYERSVILLE, KY – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) reports that at approximately 7:42 p.m. on Friday, October 4, 2024, KSP Post 9, Pikeville was notified of a three-vehicle fatal collision in Magoffin County. The collision occurred at the intersection of US 460 and KY Route 114 in the Salyersville community of Magoffin County.

Upon arrival and through investigation, troopers discovered Sarah Spurling was operating a 2013 Toyota Avalon when her vehicle struck a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu being operated by Roger Arnett as Arnett was attempting to turn into a nearby driveway. Arnett’s vehicle then collided with a 2006 GMC Sierra being operated by Pernell Lemaster. Roger Arnett was transported to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision.

As a result of this investigation, Sarah Caitlyn Spurling, age 33, of Louisville, KY, was arrested.

Sarah Spurling is charged with:

  • VEHICULAR HOMICIDE WHEN UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL
  • OPER MTR VEHICLE U/INFL ALC .08 (189A.010(1A) - 1ST (AGG CIR)
  • WANTON ENDANGERMENT-1ST DEGREE

This individual was lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center where, according to the jail's website on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 they remain held on a $250,000.00 Cash Bond.

KSP Accident Reconstructionist, Detective James Cress is investigating the collision and was assisted on scene by Kentucky State Police Post 9 personnel.
