LONDON, KY - London City Police Chief Jerry Hollon is reporting that Officer Eric Wilkerson from the London Police Department responded to a fatal collision involving three vehicles which occurred on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at approximately 4:22 pm.
Through a preliminary investigation, it was found that Shirley Smith, age 87 of London, KY was operating a 2014 Toyota Highlander at the time of the collision which occurred on S. Main Street and Armory Street.
Smith was treated on scene and transported by Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County to the CHI St. Joseph – London Hospital for her injuries. Smith would later succumb to her injuries after being transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital.
At this time, this is still an ongoing investigation. The collision is being investigated by the London Laurel Reconstruction Team consisting of Capt. Ryan Jackson and Officer Hobie Daugherty of the London Police Department and Deputy Brad Mink of the Laurel County Sheriff's Office.
The London Police Department was assisted on scene by London City Fire Department, London - Laurel Rescue Squad, Ambulance Inc. Of Laurel County and the Kentucky State Police.
