CORBIN, KY MAN WITH DRUGS JAILED IN LAUREL COUNTY AFTER CRASHING REPORTED STOLEN VEHICLE IN ATTEMPT TO AVOID A TASK FORCE CHECKPOINT

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Members of the Laurel County Drug Interdiction Task Force arrested Jeremy Ray Owens age 44 of Queen Rd., Corbin, KY early Wednesday morning August 28, 2024 at approximately 1:13 AM.

LSO logo BLACKandGOLD John Root 200The arrest occurred on Hal Rogers Parkway approximately 4 miles west of London after Owens, who was driving a black Nissan Rogue turned around in the middle of the roadway on Parker Road apparently attempting to avoid at a traffic safety checkpoint being conducted there by the Laurel County Drug Interdiction Task Force.

Task force members attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle and it failed to stop traveling at a high rate of speed along County Farm Road, Pine Top Road, Powder Mill Road, Sinking Creek Road and traveled onto Hal Rogers Parkway. Owens vehicle slammed on his brakes numerous times attempting to cause task force members to wreck.

On Hal Rogers Parkway, Jeremy Owens swerved his vehicle into two different Sheriff's office police cruisers causing damage to both police cruisers before Owens vehicle lost control, and spun out causing the vehicle to flip on its top before coming to a stop.

The driver, Jeremy Owens refused to exit his vehicle and was removed from the vehicle by task force members and taken into custody.

Investigators determined that the vehicle that Owens was driving was a reported stolen vehicle. In addition, Owens was determined to be under the influence and was found in possession of suspected methamphetamine.

Jeremy Ray Owens was charged with:

  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense
  • Receiving stolen property $10,000 or more
  • Possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine
  • Resisting arrest
  • Driving on DUI suspended license – first offense
  • Three counts of wanton endangerment – first-degree – police officer is victim
  • Fleeing or evading police – first-degree
  • Reckless driving
  • Speeding

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
