FATAL WRONG WAY DRIVER CRASH ON INTERSTATE 84 IN MULTNOMAH COUNTY, OREGON

MULTNOMAH COUNTY, OR - The Oregon State Police report that on Monday, August 12, 2024, at approximately 12:00 p.m., OSP responded to a wrong way driver on Interstate 84, near milepost 37, in Multnomah County.

The preliminary investigation indicated a Kia Rio, operated by Brookelynn Fetters (34) of Gresham, was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes. The Kia struck an eastbound BMW and continued traveling the wrong way. The Kia attempted to make a U-turn, near milepost 37, and was struck on the passenger side by an eastbound commercial motor vehicle, operated by Douglas Samual Simpson (61) of Vancouver (WA). The collision pushed the Kia into a commercial motor vehicle parked on the eastbound shoulder.

The operator of the Kia (Fetters) was transported and later declared deceased.

The other involved motorists were reportedly not injured.

The highway was impacted for several hours during the on-scene investigation. The crash is under investigation.

OSP was assisted by the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, Cascade Locks Fire, and ODOT.
