KSP SEARCHING FOR A LOUISVILLE, KY MAN IN REGARDS TO DECEASED SUBJECT DISCOVERED AT RESIDENCE ON KENTUCKY 680 IN FLOYD COUNTY

MCDOWELL, KY – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) report that Pikeville Post 9 received a call on Sunday, August 4, 2024, regarding a death in the McDowell community of Floyd County.

KSP troopers and investigators responded to a residence on Kentucky Route 680 where they discovered one male subject was deceased.

The initial investigation indicated a physical altercation between Michael Colley, 41 years old of Louisville and 53-year-old, Patrick Shepherd of McDowell led to Shepherd suffering fatal injuries. Shepherd was pronounced deceased at the scene by Floyd County Coroner’s Office.

Shepherd’s body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The cause of death is under investigation.

Colley fled the scene of the incident prior to first responder’s arrival. A search of the area was conducted, but Colley was not located.

Michael Colley is described as: A white male, standing 6’0 tall, weighing 212 pounds. Last known clothing description was dark colored jacket, dark colored sweatpants, and athletic shoes.

He should be considered armed and dangerous.
