CORBIN, KY - The Knox County Sheriff's Department reports that on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at approximately 11:40 am Knox County Deputy LT Sam Mullins received a call reporting a male subject, identified as 44-year-old Courtney F. Lowery of Pembroke, NC inside the Legacy Chevrolet-GMC dealership building in Corbin.
When LT Mullins arrived at the dealership, he noticed that the front entry glass door had been shattered with a metal garbage can lid and a tall standing metal cigarette ash tray.
LT Mullins observed a new 2024 GMC Denali SUV with all the doors open parked inside a service bay with the overhead garage door raised. LT Mullins also observed that Lowery appeared to be dancing inside a connecting service bay.
When LT Mullins identified himself and approached the man, Lowery picked up a large metal pry bar and started toward LT Mullins in a threatening manner.
When LT Mullins drew his service weapon, Lowery threw the bar down and ran out a back door.
A short time later he was apprehended in a vacant field near the dealership.
During his investigation LT Mullins learned that Lowery had taken the 2024 Denali from the dealership and had been driving it in the area before returning it to the dealership with minor damage.
Several offices inside the dealership had also been vandalized causing considerable damage.
Courtney F. Lowery was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center charged with:
- Burglary-3rd Degree
- Criminal Mischief-1st Degree
- Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition/Auto
- Fleeing or Evading Police-2nd Degree
- Terroristic Threating-3rd Degree
- Public Intoxication/Controlled Substance.
