TEEN DRIVER THAT FLED POLICE IN EXCESS OF 126 MPH ON STOLEN MOTORCYCLE ARRESTED AFTER CRASH IN LAUREL COUNTY, KENTUCKY

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Bobby Roberts arrested a 17-year-old male juvenile from Lily on Sunday night May 5, 2024 at approximately 11:55 PM.

LSO logo BLACKandGOLD John Root 200The arrest occurred on Matt Baker Road, approximately 13 miles south of London following an attempted traffic stop that began on Echo Valley Road just off South .

At that location, Deputy Roberts noted observing a black colored Honda motorcycle that failed to signal a turn from U.S. 25 onto Echo Valley Road.

It was also noted that the motorcycle had no license plate on it.

When Deputy Roberts signaled a stop utilizing his emergency equipment, the motorcycle accelerated out Echo Valley Road traveling approximately 5 miles onto KY 229 southbound traveling at speeds in excess of 126 mph.

At the Knox County line, the motorcycle turned onto Matt Baker Road and in a sharp curve on Matt Baker Road the motorcycle lost control causing the cycle to over-turn.

The driver then fled on foot and following a short chase, the suspect was captured.

During the investigation the driver was determined to be a 17-year-old juvenile under the influence and the motorcycle was determined to be stolen out of Tennessee.

The juvenile driver was charged with:

  • Receiving stolen property $1000 or more but under $10,000
  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense
  • Speeding more than 26 miles over the speed limit
  • Fleeing or evading police – first-degree – motor vehicle
  • Fleeing or evading police – second-degree – on foot
  • Resisting arrest; wanton endangerment – first-degree

This individual was taken into custody.
