LONDON, KY - According to the London Police Department (LPD), on Friday, March 15, 2024 at approximately 11:33 PM, LPD Officer Mikey Ashurst arrested Christopher L. Philpot, age 34 of London, KY.
While on routine patrol, Officer Ashurst received a report of a suspicious vehicle which had been driving through neighborhoods with its lights off.
Officer Ashurst was able to locate the vehicle and while behind it and observed it swerve in the roadway crossing the white line.
Officer Ashurst attempted to perform a traffic stop on the operator of the vehicle, later identified as Philpot. However, as Officer Ashurst exited his vehicle, Philpot accelerated and began to flee.
Officer Ashurst gave chase and followed Philpot for a short distance before Philpot turned into a field and attempted to flee on foot. Officer Ashurst attempted to subdue Philpot, but it was at this time that Philpot began to physically fight with Officer Ashurst, grabbing and striking him multiple times.
Officer Ashurst was able to gain control of Philpot long enough for other officers to arrive and assist him in placing him under arrest. Philpot was later lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
Christopher L. Philpot was charged with:
- Assault 3rd - Peace Officer
- Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree
- Fleeing or Evading Police - 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle)
- Fleeing or Evading Police - 2nd Degree (On Foot)
- Resisting Arrest
- Reckless Driving
- Speeding 20 MPH Over Limit
- Improper Start from Parked Position.
