LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root, London City Police Chief Chuck Johnson and Knox County Sheriff Mike Smith announce that: The Laurel County “Drug Interdiction” Task Force arrested 2 individuals on Wednesday, February 28th, 2024 at a traffic stop southbound at exit 41 in London, KY.
A “Drug Interdiction” traffic stop was conducted in London by the Laurel County Drug Task Force after information was developed that a woman had arranged to purchase over a pound of methamphetamine in Louisville, KY.
The female driving her Mazda pickup and a male subject in another pickup both exited I-75 southbound at exit 41 in London.
Then in an attempt to avoid the awaiting traffic stop, both vehicles began backing down the ramp the wrong way with one stopping on the shoulder and the other stopping in the roadway.
Subsequently, Detectives made contact with both subjects there and a police K-9 on scene conducted a FREE air sniff of the suspect’s vehicles during a walk around after which Task Force members located:
- Approximately 611 grams of methamphetamine
- 60 grams of marijuana
- A handgun
The male in the second pickup advised investigators that the female had asked him to travel to Lexington and pick up methamphetamine she had purchased and drive it back to London.
Both subjects were arrested and identified as (left: T to B)—Merinda Robinson age 44 of Manchester, KY and Joshua Wilson age 39 of London, KY.
The two arrested individuals were booked into the Laurel County Correctional Center.
Merinda Robinson was charged with:
- Trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – second offense – methamphetamine
- trafficking marijuana
Joshua Wilson was charged with:
- Conspiracy to traffic in a controlled substance – first offense
These 2 individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
