LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Noah Ritchie arrested Joseph Wombles age 31 of London on Monday afternoon February 19, 2024 at approximately 2:26 PM.
The arrest occurred on KY 490 approximately 7 miles north of London following a traffic stop conducted on a black Nissan Altima after the vehicle had been observed weaving on the roadway and across the centerline as oncoming traffic approached.
During the stop, Deputy Richie noted detecting the odor of alcoholic beverages and marijuana emitting from the driver, identified as, Joseph D. Wombles, age 31 of London, KY and vehicle.
In addition, it was noted there was an open alcoholic beverage container in the center console.
London City Police K-9 Officer Dylan Messer arrived at the scene and his canine conducted a walk around the vehicle alerting to the presence of drugs. Marijuana was found in the vehicle.
During the continuing investigation, the driver was determined to be under the influence.
Joseph Wombles was charged with:
- Operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense
- Possession of open alcoholic beverage container in motor vehicle prohibited
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Possession of marijuana
This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
