STANTON, KY - The Powell County Sheriff's Office reports that back in early September of 2023, Deputy Hunter Martin, Deputy Jake Rogers, Stanton Officer Ryan Smith, and Clay City Officer Garret Lawson were involved in a motorcycle pursuit of Steven Sexton of Ohio.
Sexton was wanted out of Powell Circuit Court on felony related drug charges stemming from a 2017 indictment. This pursuit would end in Montgomery County after Sexton’s motorcycle left the roadway resulting in an accident.
Sexton was in possession of all the items seen in the picture. Those items consisted of:
- Two handguns
- Suspected Methamphetamine with a preliminary weight of 357 grams
- Suspected Fentanyl with a preliminary weight of 75 grams
- Approximately $3700 in cash
- A variety of other illegal drugs/paraphernalia.
Sexton had been under surveillance by local law enforcement for a period of time and believed to be the main source of the large supply of drugs coming to our community as well as Clark County. Due to medical priority, Sexton was turned over to EMS.
Fast forward to today’s date, Tuesday, January 30, 2024, Sexton had since been released from medical where he returned to Kentucky.
Officer Ryan Smith with the Stanton Police Department worked hard to locate Sexton in which he was tracked to the Kiddville area where he would lead law enforcement on another vehicle pursuit near Ironworks.
Winchester PD successfully deployed stop sticks which would eventually cause Sexton to come to a stop, resulting in an arrest.
Although pictures are not available at this point, on this incident Sexton was in possession of:
- Approximately one ounce of suspected Methamphetamine
- 4 grams of suspected Cocaine
- Some cash
Steven Sexton is currently lodged in the Powell County Detention Center on several felony drug charges as well as:
- "Persistent Felony Offender"
- "Felon in Possession of Handgun"
More charges are pending in Clark County regarding this latest incident.

We would like to thank the Stanton Police Department, Clay City Police Department, Winchester Police Department, and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this arrest.
