LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Tommy Houston arrested Rosie Marie Byington age 52 of Gainesville, Tennessee on Thursday afternoon February 1, 2024 at approximately 5:19 PM.
The arrest occurred at Walmart near Corbin in southern Laurel County after Walmart's loss prevention team detained an individual there.
Upon arrival at the scene Deputy Houston learned that Byington had been observed taking items in the amount of $73.45 without paying for them.
Upon arrest, Byington briefly struggled with Deputy Houston before being taken into custody.
This individual then began yelling and cursing and creating a disturbance and continued this action even as she was being escorted out the store and to the police cruiser.
Rosie Marie Byington was charged with:
- Theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting
- Public intoxication – controlled substances
- Resisting arrest
- Disorderly conduct – second-degree
- Menacing
This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
